NSPF Certified Pool Operator
CPO Certification is required in conjunction with the Bathing Place Manager in Allegheny County. A CPO® Certification provides individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. This training has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities. A CPO is required in Allegheny County and is recommended for all commercial facilities. Topics include: Disease & Accident Prevention, Hot Water Care, Pool Management, Codes, Pool Calculations, Water Chemistry, Water Testing, Filtration, Recirculation, Maintenance, and Operational Problems.
Cost for the course includes class, text book, exam and certification. Class starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 5:00 p.m. on the first day. Class runs until 12:30 on the second day followed by the exam. Exams must be completed within 2.5 hours. A grade of 75% on the open-book test and full attendance in class is required to pass. You will know when you leave whether or not you passed the exam, and one re-take opportunity is provided if you did not. Photo I.D. is required for testing. A CPO certificate is valid for 5 years.
If you prefer, we also offer a Blended Format Class, which consists of an Online Primer + attendance at the second day of class. The online portion must be completed (it takes approximately 8 hours in total) and you must bring a printed Certificate of Completion to the class. The Primer can be taken over a period of days or weeks.
Allegheny County Bathing Place Manager
This certification is required in conjunction with the CPO in order to operate a commercial pool within Allegheny County and is part of the CPO class.
After giving a brief presentation on the County rules and regulations on the 2nd day of the CPO Class, the Allegheny County Health Department will administer a short quiz. After passing the CPO exam and Bathing Place Manager quiz, you must apply for the Bathing Place Manager certificate and pay a $25 fee to Allegheny County. The Bathing Place Manager certificate is valid for 5 years.
Pesticide Applicator Certification
Certification as a commercial or public applicator is required when pesticides (e.g., chlorine, bromine, algaecide) are being applied to public swimming pools in Pennsylvania.
B&R experts will conduct a fast-paced REVIEW of the Core and Category 24 study materials in the morning, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will administer both CLOSED-BOOK tests in the afternoon.
Class runs from 8:00 – 12:00 followed by the exam.
Cost of the course includes text books, review, Core and Category 24 Tests (closed book) and lunch. Photo ID is required for testing.
ADVANCE PREPARATION is needed before taking the review class as both exams are CLOSED BOOK.
Because it can take 4-6 weeks for the State to grade exams, we recommend early registration for compliance during the summer swim season.
Note: This class is only for those individuals who do NOT currently hold a Pesticide Applicator license.
Pesticide Recertification (Credits)
Once certified, applicators are required to complete continuing education classes every three years. All applicators must obtain three hours (6 credits) of core training and two hours (4 credits) of Category 24-Swimming Pool credits. This seminar is designed to bring your current Pesticide Applicator’s license Core/Category 24 credits current. The Core session runs 9:30 – 12:30 and the Category 24 session runs 1:30 – 3:30. This class is offered annually in late August/early September.
Note: You must have photo ID and PA Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License to take this seminar.
